How do genetic tests differ from diagnostic tests for genetic disease?

Genetic tests identify if an individual is carrying a mutation known to be associated with a genetic disease; depending on the disease, having the mutation does not mean the disease will necessarily develop. Diagnostic tests, in contrast, reveal if a disease is present and, if so, to what extent it has developed.
