The due process model of criminal justice believes the death penalty should be abolished. The arguments due process advocates make include that it is morally wrong for the state to take a life, the death penalty is not a deterrent, and the death penalty is unfairly administered. Crime control proponents believe the death penalty is morally acceptable because the person being put to death has already taken a life, the death penalty is a deterrent, and fairness issues are either unimportant or unproven.
