If the concentration of sodium outside a normal cell were to increase, would you expect there to be any effect on the sodium equilibrium potential or the resting membrane potential?
Equilibrium potential would:
a) not chang
b) become more negative
c) become more positive

in class we're taught that the concentration outside is 145mM and in is 10 mM. By the nernst equation (a modified version we use in class) Rightwards Arrow  61 = RT/zF Rightwards Arrow 61*log(145/10) = +70. if we increase the outside Na+ conc., 61*log(200/10) = +79

Resting membrane potential would:
a) not change
b) become more negative
c) become more positive
relative to the outside.. it would be more negative wouldn't it?
