Lets say that after this exam is graded, you receive a percentage on the exam and a Z-score. Lets say that your Z-score for this exam is 3.0. In comparison with other students scores, would this mean that you did really well on the exam, really badly on the exam, or about the same as most people?
 
  A. You did really well on the exam in comparison with others.
  B. You did really badly on the exam in comparison with others.
  C. You were about the same as most other students.
  D. It cant be determined on the basis of this information.



Suppose that you measured support for sexual equality for a sample of males in a mens group and for a sample of females in a womens group. Among both males and females, the mean score was 70 points (out of 100 possible). However, the standard deviation for the males was 10, while the standard deviation for the females was 20. In which group is there greater variation in the variable support for sexual equality?

We do not need to worry about selecting the appropriate measure of central tendency (average) because computer programs that compute such measures will automatically select the specific measure that is appropriate for use in a particular situation.
