(Answer to Q. 1)  An antonym is a word or term that has the opposite meaning as the word
or term being defined. An antonym is used to explain the meaning of a
word or term through a word or term that has the opposite meaning.

(Answer to Q. 2)  A synonym is, generally, a familiar word or phrase that has the same
meaning as the unfamiliar word. A synonym is used to explain the
meaning of a word or term that may be unfamiliar to the reader through a
word or term that the reader probably knows.

(Answer to Q. 3)  A definition is an explanation of the meaning of a word or term.

(Answer to Q. 4)  Writers do not always state a cause-and-effect relationship. The
relationship may only be implied. The reader must determine the
relationship by making an inference.

(Answer to Q. 5)  A faulty assumption is reasoning that an event is a cause because it
preceded a particular effect.

(Answer to Q. 6)  Two factors to observe, in particular, in writing a cause-and-effect
paragraph or essay are (1) to be sure to consider not only the most obvious
or simple causes but also the least obvious but contributing, and perhaps
more important, causes; and (2) to not mistake some event as a cause
simply because it preceded a particular effect.

(Answer to Q. 7)  The purpose of cause and effect is to explain why or the reason (the cause)
that something happened (the effect).
