Mycorrhizal fungi produce spores, and when they germinate a short mycelium is made. The mycelium uses chemotaxis to go toward a nearby plant root, and once attached a hyphopodium structure is formed. Epidermal root cells are then penetrated by the mycelia, and arbuscules are ultimately created.
