{Ans. #1}

Ideas to include parents into a teacher's mathematics program include:

 Show parents who would like to see more worksheets, drills, and flashcards how to reinforce number sense using card games, dice, and activities from sources such as Family Math for Young Children (Stenmark, Coates, & Rose, 1997).
 Let parents review units and projects from middle school and high school. If students in the district score well on standardized tests or bring home prizes in math meets, be sure to include this valuable supportive data.
 Explain your program's philosophy and methods at open houses, in letters and notes, and at parent-teacher conferences.
 Make videos or slide presentations about life in your classroom.
 Start a lending library of children's books with math related themes.
 Collect pamphlets and books written to help parents understand the curriculum.
 Be positive about the good things that the children are learning.
