Quasi-experimental designs do not have random assignment of subjects to groups. True experimental designs have random assignment of subjects to groups and thus provide stronger evidence of cause-and-effect relationships.

Interaction refers to an effect that occurs in a factorial design when the influence of one factor depends on the level of a second factor. For example, a treatment may be effective with boys but not girls.
