Answer to q. 1

The stamen is the male reproductive structure. The head, or anther, contains two pollen sacs where pollen is produced, and is supported by the filament. They surround the carpels in flowers that have both male and female reproductive parts.

Answer to q. 2

Plant X is a short-day plant because it requires a day length shorter than a critical period. Plant X will not flower because the critical dark period was interrupted by red light. The red light converted phytochrome red to far-red, therefore signaling the plant that it is daytime. This example illustrates that it is the length of the dark period that actually stimulates flowering.
