Answer to q. 1

Both plasma and memory cells are produced. These both will produce antibodies appropriate to match the antigen of the foreign cell. Plasma cells act immediately to quell the infection; the memory cells circulate for a number of years to prevent further infection.

Answer to q. 2

Helper T cells become activated by foreign antigen, and then interact with B cells that have also bound themselves to the foreign antigen. The helper T cells produce interleukins, which cause the B cell to produce hundreds of thousands of identical (clonal) B cells that now have the ability to produce a great amount of the antibody necessary to quell the infection.
