Answer to q. 1

The central nervous system involves the brain and spinal cord where integration of neural activity
occurs. The peripheral nervous system is involved with transmission of information to the central
nervous system--the afferent division--and transmission of information away from the central nervous
system--the efferent division--to target structures and organs.

Answer to q. 2

The primary sensory and motor areas have regions of gray matter and associated white matter that
store information. This information is integrative and is involved with learning and memory of senses
and motor skills. Wernicke's and Broca's areas are association areas important with language--
understanding and speaking words. Other examples would be vision and smell association areas. If a
person is exposed to a new sight or smell, the new information is compared to previous sights or
smells stored in the association areas for faster recognition and understanding.
