The United States also had an attitude toward manufacturing that greatly helped its success. Compared to Germany, the U.S. produced far fewer models of tanks, ships, and planes and accepted lower standards. This approach allowed them to produce a high-volume output that far surpassed all other nations. Improvements in the speed with which Liberty Ships were produced illustrate the advantages this created. The first Liberty Ship took almost a year to make. By the end of 1942 they were being produced in about a week.
