The population of a city has continued to grow since 1950. The
population P, in thousands, and the time t, in years, since 1950 are
given in the table below and in the graph.
a) Calculate the average rate of change in population for the following
intervals of time.
i) 0 ≤  t ≤ 20
For this I did the following:
=20-5/20-0
=15/20
=0.75 which is correct. But as I soon as I did the other ones, they were wrong.
ii) 20 ≤ t ≤ 40
iii) 40 ≤ t ≤ 60
iv) 0 ≤ t ≤ 60

b) Is the population growth constant?

c) To predict what the population will be in 2050, what assumptions
must you make?

I just want to make sure but why did you choose to use 80-20/40-20?

it asks between 20 and 40. Look @ the y-coordinates for those years.

So I looked at the 20 and its point was (20,20) so we cannot use that then I looked at 30 (30, 40) so then I would use 40, or 20 - 40 for the time and then I look at 40 (40,80) So then I would use 80, 40 - 20. I'm not sure this is confusing me.

It's confusing you because you're looking at the table wrong. Flip is vertically, and it'll start to make more sense.

This should settle the score:

Always first row represents x, second row represents y.

Yes, and also I think you were wrong with the ppl/year. For i) it's 750ppl/year, ii)3,000ppl/year, iii) is right, iv) 5,250ppl/year

Correct, I thought it was 10,000, apparently it reads 1,000

Sorry!

It's okay! But wouldn't that mean the population in 2050 is 525,000?
