Identify the points where the function g(x) = x⁴ - 1 will attain its minimum and maximum values on [-1, 1].

Can someone give me an answer with solution or explanation about this? I'm striving hard to find clues about this question. Thank you

Hi Lily,

The graph of x^4 is similar to a parabola you'd find when graphing x^2, except it's wider.

Adding or subtracting a constant to x^4, as in -1 causes the graph to vertically shift down by 1 unit.

Because of the functions simplicity, there will only be one maxima, and it'll be at (0, -1). The maxima will be a minimum at this point.
