In the Socratic Seminar model, dialogue is an open-ended, flexible, reciprocal interchange in which individuals think about, question, discuss, and interrogate ideas to gain different perspectives on a topic while also temporarily suspending their own beliefs. Six types of questions involved in Socratic questioning include: (1) questions for clarification, (2) questions that probe assumptions, (3) questions that probe reasons and evidence, (4) questions about viewpoints and perspectives, (5) questions that probe implications and consequences, and (6) questions about questions.
