df = n1 + n2 - 2 = 8 + 7 - 2 = 13
tα/2 = 2.650

Calculate the sample mean and sample standard deviation for iPads:

1 =  = 8.5 hours




Calculate the sample mean and sample standard deviation for Kindles:

2 =  = 10.0 hours


Because  = 1.79 is less than  = 2.650, we fail to reject the null hypothesis. Therefore, we cannot conclude that the average battery life for an iPad is different from the average battery life for a Kindle Fire.
