2n = 28

This equation tells us that the organism has 14 pairs of chromosomes, thus making 28 chromosomes in total.

Before mitosis begins, however, the 28 chromosomes need to be replicated.

Hence, at prophase, we expect to finding 28 * 2 = 56 chromosomes in total.

Does that help?

In the metaphase of meiosis one: 56
 prophase of meiosis two: 28
metaphases of meiosis two: 28
 Is this correct?
