For many years, colleges have been stigmatized and there has been a stereotypical notion that college students were "inferior"' to university students in intelligence, given that the vocational mandates of colleges had placed them in a subordinate position within the higher education system. According to James Knight, president of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (2011), the biggest area of enrolment growth for colleges is driven by university graduates who are treating colleges as a de facto finishing school in order to get into the workforce. Discuss this emerging trend in postsecondary education. Are we at a point where one needs both a university degree and a college education in order to be employable? Why or why not?
