Imagine you identify two elementary schools for research into the effects of density and crowding. School A has an average class size of 45, and children must go to lunch and recess in shifts because the cafeteria and the playground cannot accommodate all of them at once. In School B, the average class size is 20, there's extra room in the cafeteria when all the children are there, and all the kids have recess together on a large playground. Before beginning your research, what do you already know about these schools?

▸ School A has a higher density and is more crowded.

▸ School A has a higher density of students, but the schools appear to be equally crowded.

▸ School B has lower density, whereas school A is more crowded.

▸ School A has a higher density of students, but you cannot tell which school is more crowded.
