b. Population   Life Strategy      Type of Graph
    Rabbits        r-selected              Exponential

c. Population    Life Strategy     Type of Graph
     Mosquitoes   K-selected            Logistic

d. Population      Life Strategy    Type of Graph
    Dandelions      K-selected        Exponential

2) Use the following information to answer the next question.

There are two types of life strategies used by organisms to survive in their environment.

K-selected strategy—growth rate is near the carrying capacity
r-selected strategy—growth rate is near biotic potential

Match the characteristics below to the life strategy they represent.

#1

rabbits - r selected - exponential

Rabbits are r selected species that have high growth rates, produce many offspring and has a relatively low probability of surviving to adulthood .R-selected species tend to have exponential growth i.e. a J shaped curve because the population grows very quickly.

#2

K selected strategy

Long lifespan

Few offsprings

Logistic growth

In the K selection the importance is given for the carrying capacity. These species invest more towards the development of each offspring and there are a few number of offsprings and the offsprings have a higher survival rate. The lifespan of the organism will be also higher.

r-selected strategy

J-curve

In R selected strategy the primary importance is for reproduction. The organisms produce a large number of offspring and there is less investment in the protection of the young ones. It is common among the les lifespan species and they follow an exponential growth pattern
