What drugs can a person test for before hiring someone? Is cannabis testing allowed?

It depends on the company/organization. For example, if you're a UFC fighter / athlete, you'd be tested for hormones (testosterone boosters, HGH, etc.). If you're working in law enforcement, likely things like cannabis, etc. It also depends on which state/country you work in; cannabis may be completely legal and wouldn't be an issue.

Just wondering. Since it became legal for most purposes in my state the neighborhood really started to smell bad. I think people have legally been fired for not quitting tobacco products, so I would hope cannabis would be similar.

Correct, just because it is legal doesn't mean it is ethical and should be accepted as the norm in organizations. For much the same reason why alcohol isn't permissible in nearly every work place either even though it has been legal for almost forever!
