A good answer will include the following key points.
Inappropriate or coercive influence can create new problems for the client.
The best known examples of this are multiple personality disorder and recovery of repressed memories of sexual abuse.
Clients end up spending more time and money on therapy for a problem that doesn’t really exist or is only present because of pressure from the therapist.
Clients often can suffer significant emotional distress when this happens.
