Given the information on alcohol and its effects on the developing baby, what advice would you give to a
pregnant friend regarding alcoholic drinks?  What evidence could you cite from the text to support your
view?

It is recommended that pregnant women totally abstain from the consumption of alcohol during pregnancy.
Having more than two drinks a day significantly increases the risk of fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS).
FAS is associated with low birth weight, a smaller brain, facial deformities, lack of coordination, and mental retardation.
FAS is the leading cause of nonhereditary mental retardation.
Defects resulting from alcohol consumption during pregnancy can vary from no defects to severe problems.
