Tate is eager to increase his creativity and intuition so that he can excel in his career as an engineer.  He plans to sign up for an expensive course to promote the use of his right brain.  As one of his good friends, what advice would you give to Tate regarding this course?  What characteristics of human thought might explain the eagerness to glorify being “right-brained” and to disparage being “left-brained” (or vice versa)?

As well as involvement in creativity and intuition, the right brain is involved in producing fear and sadness.
In most real-life situations, both hemispheres make valuable contributions and are necessary for success.
The differences between the hemispheres are relative, not absolute.
One way to make sense of the world is to use either-or thinking (e.g., people are either right-brained or left-brained) but this is too simplistic an explanation.
Either-or thinking may make us think that we can become happier and more successful if only we could improve the functioning of one hemisphere or the other.
One should carefully investigate the credentials of people offering such a course before spending money on something that may just be wishful thinking.
