Imagine that you have shrunk to microscopic size and that you are traveling through the brain. As you stand on top of the brain stem and look toward the back part of the brain, you see a structure about the size of a small fist that looks like a “little brain.”  What structure of the brain have you encountered?  What function is associated with this “lesser brain”?

The cerebellum is behind the brain stem.
Contributes to a sense of balance and coordination of movement.
Also involved in remembering simple skills and acquired reflexes.
May be involved in complex cognitive tasks such as analyzing sensory information, solving problems, and understanding words.
