I am currently taking an Anatomy & Physiology class and have not had a biology or science based class in YEARS.

The difficulty that I am experiencing is with Humoral Immunity.  I realize that it is an adaptive defense, but is humoral immunity a first line of defense or a second line of defense?  Can memory cells generated during humoral immunity remember pathogens for extended periods?

Thanks for any information.

Welcome to the forum!

but is humoral immunity a first line of defense or a second line of defense?

It is not the first line because the first line of defense would be stuff like your skin or sweat which kills the pathogen before it infects you.

Can memory cells generated during humoral immunity remember pathogens for extended periods?

Yes, up to 10 years or more.
