The origins of intelligence have been debated for decades. Some believe that intelligence is overwhelmingly a product of heredity. Children of high achieving parents are, on average, more likely to be high achievers themselves. Others believe that intelligence is overwhelmingly a product of the environment. Schools clearly affect intelligence. There is evidence that intelligence can be changed by programs designed to do so. Most likely, intelligence is a combination of both heredity and the environment
