When an approach-avoidance conflict arises, an individual is debating on whether to select an option that has both pros and cons within it. For example, Linda gets admitted to a prestigious graduate school—one that she has dreamed about attending. It is in a location that is perfect, the program is exactly the one she wanted, the professor are fantastic, she knows she’ll get a job upon completion from school (all pros), BUT the school offered her no assistance in paying for the education (con). She knows she’ll have to take out school loans in order to attend that graduate school. Does she accept her admission or does she forgo her admission?
