The cerebellum has a complex, highly convoluted surface of neural cortex, shaped into thin folds, called folia, that are less prominent than the gyri of the cerebrum. The anterior and posterior lobes are separated by the primary fissure. The narrow band of cortex at the midline is the vermis, which separates the cerebellar hemispheres of the posterior lobes. The slender flocculonodular lobes lie anterior and inferior to the cerebellar hemispheres.
