What's the name for the connective tissue between the skin and underlying muscle/fat/flesh? Furthermore, is this layer of connective tissue able to regenerate?

I believe the answer you are looking for is epithelial tissue.

Varies depending on vacularity, if more blood is available than connective tissue can regenerate better.

I don't know if that's what I'm looking for.

I'm actually referring to the stuff that "adheres" the skin to whatever lies beneath it. When we rub our skin, it sort of slides back and forth over the underlying tissue. What snaps the skin back to its original position?
