Of course, the sun only shines during the day and the wind doesn’t blow all the time. Wind industry data show that wind power systems produce power about 30% of the time. And in Texas, home of large investments in wind power, air conditioning demand is highest when wind speeds are typically lowest, during hot humid summer days.

However, laws could require all new housing in such a climate to have photovoltaics to produce electricity for air conditioning. The problem is not technological as much as it is political, some say.
