Ninety percent of patients with the fatal cancer chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML cancer) have a chromosomal mutation in their myeloblasts caused by a reciprocal translocation event between chromosome 22 and chromosome 9. The defective chromosome 22 is called the Philadelphia chromosome.
