Cloned animals are usually made by transplanting a somatic cell nucleus into an enucleated oocyte from a donor. Unless the donor cell is from the same maternal lineage as the somatic cell, the mitochondria and the mitochondrial DNA will be that of the egg donor, not the clone parent.
