The central misconception in the nature versus nurture debate is:

b. that there is a clear distinction between the effects of the environment and the effects of genes on an individual.
c. that evolution did not happen via the mechanisms of natural selection.

a. False. This is true for the most part, environment can effect phenotype, and so it is NOT a misconception.

b. This is the correct answer. It is VERY hard to delineate between what is caused by nature and what is caused by our upbringing. It is very hard to test, especially in organisms like humans who obviously can't be put in cages. The best we have to look at in humans is identical separated twins.

c. False. While this might be a misconception, it is not linked to the nature v. nurture debate and so is false.

d. False. While this may also be a misconception, it is also not linked to the nature v. nurture debate very strongly, and is false.

Hope this helps!
