In 2011, the National Drug Control Strategy, a publication of the ONDCP, endorsed
“a balance of prevention, treatment, and law enforcement,” as a strategy to reduce illicit drug usage.  List and describe four of the steps they endorsed.  Do you believe these strategies are workable?  What would you add to these strategies?

(1) developing a community-oriented national prevention system focused on young people; (2) collaborating with states to implement evidence based prevention initiatives;
(3) Providing sound information about the dangers of drug use to young people, their parents,
and other caring adults; (4) supporting mentoring initiatives, especially among youth at greater risk for initiating drug use; (5) expanding research on drugs used by youth, including inhalants, pain killers, and steroids; (6) fostering collaboration between public health and public safety organizations to prevent drug use and (7) curtailing drugged driving.
