Hi,
I'm reading tissue chapter and in the "parenchyma, collenchyma" figures, for each tissue there are 2 figures - transverse section and longitudinal section.
What do they mean?

Hi you mean latitude, latitude was around a lot longer than longitude measurement as longitude needs an accurate time piece hence why mr john Harrison should have been awarded the kings prize and why the astronomer royal should have been taken out and hung drawn and quartered for destroying his time pieces.

Transverse section would be to cut across the diameter of the stem.  Longitudinal is a section down the length of the stem (from top to bottom).  The appearance (shape) of the cells such as parenchyma will be different due to the plane in which the cut is made.
