How are the structures/functions of phloem in plants and blood in animals similar/different?

They both transport but they transport different things. They can both be transported both up and down.

phloem transports sugars and whatnot throughout the plant, while its counterpart , xylem, transports water and nutrients.

its rather similar to the vascular system of mammals

except the hemoglobin and platelets =p
