The species that has halucinogens is Rivea corymbosa. The ergot alkaloid is ergine and it isn't the main toxin in ergot which is ergotimine.  Ergotimine is a poison.  I was poisoned by ergot and it was a horrible experience.  I completely lost the ability to form long term memory and my mind was affected for about a week.  It is extremely disabling when you can't remember what you were doing or thinking a few minutes before.  It does have closely related compounds but the effects of the morning glory aren't as negative.  I never took it before so I am not recommending it  but ergot is a nightmare.  People don't get high on ergot, they get poisoned by it.  LSD was made from ergotimine but the effects of LSD are dramatically different and it is much more powerful.   Morning glories do have lysergic acid in them and that is very closely related to LSD which is a form of lysergic acid.  LSD is 10 times more potent if memory serves but LSD is incredibly potent.  I was poisoned by a piece of ergot the size of a grain of rye.  It looked a lot like the rye kernels in the bag that I bought from Mother's Market.
