Does the tattoo artist wear gloves?
Does the tattoo artist use proper equipment?

1. Look for clean, well-lighted work areas and inquire about sterilization procedures.
2. Packaged, sterilized needles should be used once, then discarded in a "sharps" container. Make sure that the artist uses new needles and tubes from a sterile package.
3. Immediately before and after tattooing, the body area should be carefully sterilized. The artist should wash his or her hands and put on new latex gloves for each procedure.
4. Leftover tattoo ink should be discarded after each procedure. Do not allow the artist to reuse ink that has been used for other customers.
