In terms of gas gangrene caused by Clostridium perfringens, the treatment involves surgical debridement, with amputation if necessary, while treatment for cases involving food poisoning are rarely administered.

Antibiotics alone do not suffice by virtue of inadequate blood flow during tissue necrosis, but they should be given as an adjuvant to surgery. Gas gangrene can be treated with hyperbaric oxygen, which is toxic to the anaerobic C. perfringens. Susceptible patients should maintain careful foot care and should avoid trama.

Thank you.

This is a personal user experience which i had when i was 35 years old.

User experience

There was a big Greenish / yellowish buldge / bump visible on my Left hand thumb.
This was caused due to a small nail portion which had remained inside the skin which resulted in pus. I will attribute to my carelessness.
Suddenly one fine evening when i was returning home from office, i started having big pain on my left thumb area where there was the buldge or bump.
I was operated with a mini surgery of 15 minutes was performed to remove the pus.
I got a big relief when the pus was removed from the infected left hand thumb area.
By God's Grace, my Left finger or Left Hand was not amputated as the surgery was performed in right time.
In worst to worst case, if i was unable to meet our family physician or the surgeon who operated me on time, it would have possibly resulted in death since brain dead due to gangrene.

Can i have your views, opinion regarding my personal incident?

Note : The only difference here as per the attached image was the affected marked buldge / bumb area was greenish or yellowish in colour for my left hand thumb.

Thanks & Regards,

None of the above. It's a bacterial infection. The way to treat it is to expose the bacteria to oxygen, then it dies.

Thank you.

I was in severe pain and the only way to remove the pus was surgery.
