-14x - 4y + 20 = 0

What is the answer in (x,y) form and what are the steps to get to that answer?

5x -y +5 = 0

For the above, y seems the easiest...

5x -y +5 = 0
5x + 5 = y

Since y = 5x + 5, you can "substute" 5x + 5 in place of y into the other equation.

-14x - 4y + 20 = 0
-14x - 4 * (5x + 5) + 20 = 0
-14x - 20x - 20 + 20 = 0
-34x = 0
x = 0

Now substute 0 for x into one of the original equations.

5x -y +5 = 0
-y + 5 = 0
y = 5

x = 0 and y = 5 so...

(0,5)
