i have a buck converter with an external input filter in the order l,c,r. i know the input voltage, output voltage(but not the current) and the load resistance, also the value of inductor of the external input filter and also know the values of the inductor and capacitor in the buck converter. but i don't know how to find the value of the resistor and the capacitor of the external input filter. please help by providing some equations to find the values of the resistor and the capacitor in the filter.

There are no hard and fast rules, it depends on the designer, the specifications on the circuit, such as frequency, noise, regulation, cost, size, reliability, and others, none of which you have provided.

Most analog circuit designs are tradeoffs between two or more parameters. And how that tradeoff was made is not easily discernible after the fact.
