For example when yeast produces energy, which is it? What about when methanogens produce energy?

Basically in anaerobic respiration there is an electron transport chain (electron transport system. ETS) and electrons pass through this chain and release its energy to produce ATP. But in fermentation there isn't any ETS and energy produced by phosporylation of intermediary metabolytes.

Yeasts produces energy, by fermenting glucose to ethyl alcohol, but methanogenesis is count as anaerobic respiration because there are some electron acceptors and ETS elements like coenzymes involved the process.
