As you start to insert an oropharyngeal airway into your patient's mouth, he begins to make gagging sounds. You should immediately:
A) pause until the patient stops gagging, then continue advancing the device.
B) remove the device and maintain the airway without it.
C) select a smaller device and try again.
D) rotate the device 90 degrees to reduce stimulation of the gag reflex.
