A surveyor runs a line due east from A to B, but he cannot continue the line in an easterly direction because of an obstacle. Therefore, he runs a line 835ft long from B to C in a direction S 25°E, and then runs another line CD in a direction N 52°E. How long should CD be if D is due to east of B?

We must have |CD| cos 52 = |BC| cos 25 so |CD| = 835 cos 25 / cos 52 = 1229.2 ft
