I took a quiz and my teacher took points off of my answer because I said that light-dependent reactions occur in the thylakoid. She said the answer should have been "thylakoid membrane." What's the difference?

The thylakoid membrane defines the thylakoid. The thylakoid is a structure that has an internal space and a membrane surrounding it. The thylakoid membrane is a more specific answer to the question, since the light-dependent reactions are all carried out by enzymes which are embedded within the membrane.
