Could somebody please explain to me how exactly integral membrane proteins play a role in hormone reception and active transport? Thank you.

Hormones bind to specific receptor(s) on the target cell. Water soluble hormones ( peptides ect) bind to membrane protein receptors initiating a chain events that result in the phosphorylation of cytoplasm enzymes. When there is too much of a hormone, there are few receptors that are sensitive to it. But, when a hormone is deficient, the sensitivity of the receptors reach a maximum. Hope this helped.
