passive and active transport are both different forms of diffusion. Passive transport means that the substance goes from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration. active transport means that the substance is being forced using atp to go from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration.

passive - no energy, with concentration gradient, uses proteins
