Ok, I know that an ATP molecule consists of C10H16N5O13P3. How does it store so much usable energy?

The three phosphates are negatively charged and very close together (same charges repulse each other), so there's a lot of potential energy in the bonds that link them to each other and adenosine. Breaking the bond between the gamma- and beta- or the beta- and alpha- phosphate is favorable because it allows negative charges to disperse.
