I need help with these. Can someone explain why the following answers coresspond with each question and why?Neutral Face I need the points!!!!!!
14) Following clear cutting of a broadleaf forest several hundred years ago, the land was colonized by herbaceous species that were placed largely over time by shrubs, then by forest trees. Assuming the growth of the shrubs and trees are enhanced by the soil holding properties of the herbaceous plants, which of the following processes best describes the progression from herbaceous plants to forest trees.
Right answer: secondary succession ; facilitation

15) There are more species in tropical areas than in places further from the equator. This probably a result of
Right answer: a longer growing season

16) What is the fundamental difference between matter and energy?
Right answer: Matter is cycled through ecosystems , energy is not

17) Which of the following terms encompasses all of the others?
Right answer: heterotrophy

18) How does phosphorous normally enter the atmosphere?
Right answer: it does not enter the atmosphere biologically significant amounts

15) There are more species in tropical areas than in places further from the equator. This probably a result of
Right answer: a longer growing season

Makes sense because the longer time you have to grow, the more species there will. Places near the equator are constantly hot; there is no winter or any months where things virtually stop growing (like trees). Whereas places further up or down have major changes in seasons, you go from hot ion the summer to super cold in the winter.

Secondary succession is the invasion of a habitat by plants on land that was previously vegetated. This facilitation model of succession suggests that the change in plant species dominance over time is caused by modifications in the abiotic environment that are imposed by the developing community. Thus the entry and growth of the later species depends on earlier species preparing the ground.

16) What is the fundamental difference between matter and energy?
Right answer: Matter is cycled through ecosystems , energy is not

The law of conservation of energy states that the total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant over time. A consequence of this law is that energy can neither be created nor destroyed: it can only be transformed from one state to another. Matter on the other hand can be cycled.

17) Which of the following terms encompasses all of the others?
Right answer: heterotrophy

What are the other Frowning Face?

18) How does phosphorous normally enter the atmosphere?
Right answer: it does not enter the atmosphere biologically significant amounts

The answer does not makes sense.
